Packing Tips for Your Dining Room
Packing the dining room for a local move, an international relocation, or a smaller part-load shipment out of Greece? This room often contains the most delicate and valuable items in the home — fine china, crystal, silverware, and decorative pieces. Protecting them during a move to or from Athens, Greece, requires care and precision. Allied, The Careful Movers, helps clients across Greece pack safely and efficiently, whether the job is a specialized move, an office relocation, or a complete household relocation.
Dining Room Essentials: What to Know Before You Pack
A few basics make the rest of the process easier:
- Use dish pack cartons with cellular dividers for glassware and stemware
- Add fragile items over a certain value to a High-Value Inventory list for valuation coverage
- Consider professional packing services for chandeliers or marble table tops
Step-by-Step Packing Tips for Key Items
China and Glassware
- Wrap each piece individually in clean paper
- Use several layers of padding and a double layer of newsprint
- Label boxes clearly: “FRAGILE – THIS SIDE UP”
Flatware and Silver
- Wrap each item to prevent tarnishing
- Use plastic wrap or anti-tarnish paper
- Fill voids in silverware chests to prevent movement in transit
Figurines and Curios
- Wrap delicate items in tissue and cushioned paper
- Use small boxes with soft padding to prevent breakage
Lamps and Lampshades
- Wrap lamp bases separately from their shades
- Use tissue or towels — not newspaper — for shades
- Label: “LAMP SHADES – FRAGILE – TOP LOAD ONLY”
Furniture and Rugs
- Shrink-wrap upholstered items
- Clean and roll rugs before shipping
- Pad and secure table leaves and furniture corners
Chandeliers, Artwork & Mirrors
- Request custom crates from the Allied team for high-value fragile items
- Never let packing paper touch oil paintings directly
